Training on fruit preservation, processing concludes

Valedictory function of the month-long skill development programme on 'training on preservation and processing of fruits and vegetables' was held at Manipur Press Club today.
The training programme was conducted by Self Employment Voluntary Association (SEVA), North Babupara under the sponsorship of National Bank for Agricultural and Rural development (Nabard).
Nabard Imphal Regional Office's Officer in-charge SV Nemlekar and SEVA president N Landhoni Devi were the chief guest and functional president respectively of the closing ceremony while master trainer (fruit & vegetable) M Tonjao Singh, Association of Food Scientist and Technologist-India (Manipur Chapter) vice president H Shubhra Devi and Nabard's assistant General Manager Ch Birachandra Singh graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
In his address, Nemlekar emphasised on preservation and processing of fruits and vegetables available in Manipur and exuded confidence that the trainees would translate experiences gained during the training period into productive ventures to supplement the food security.
Delivering the presidential speech, N Landhoni highlighted that SEVA was established with the stated objective of bringing together educated unemployed girls and transform their energy and expertise into income generation units at the grassroots level.
Noting that a huge quantity of fruits and vegetables rot due to various factors, she also exhorted the trainees to ensure that experiences gained at the training course be utilised in preservation and processing of fruits and vegetables.
