Imphal, July 15 2012:
After an RCC bridge built over Leishang Hiden sank and collapsed yesterday at Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi, construction of a connecting road has begun today by filling a small portion of the canal with earth.
Notably, Works Minister Kh Ratankumar after inspecting the collapsed bridge yesterday assured to construct a wooden bridge as an ad-hoc measure.
He also announced to institute a departmental enquiry.
But the people of Kyamgei felt that construction of wooden bridge would take time and they chose to fill up the canal and make a small connecting road.
In accordance with the wish of the local people, MLA K Thamarjit together with functionaries of Youth Pioneer Youth Club, Kyamgei Maning Leikai called on Chief Minister O Ibobi and sought permission to fill up a small portion of Leishang Hiden for construction of a temporary road.
One functionary of the club informed that the Chief Minister has agreed to their proposal.
