Delegates to leave Imphal today

Dr M Nara would lead a delegation of 50 members from the North East including a sub-editor of The Sangai Express, Ningombam Noren to attend a National Conference organised by Campaign for Electoral Reforms of India (CERI) scheduled for February 9 and 10 at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, (International Youth Centre), New Delhi.
The team would leave for Delhi on February 8. Realising the seriousness of changing the present electoral system of India to make it more democratic and inclusive of all sections of the society, CERI was initiated in 2008, according to a release issued by Dr M Nara, coordinator of CERI, NEI.
With an avowed purpose of working towards Proportionate Electoral System of India, CERI conducted substantial researches on different models of Proportionate Representation System in Germany, Norway, New Zealand, Nepal and Netherland including more than 17 state conferences to elicit opinions of the citizens, it stated.
CERI had organised an International workshop of electoral system that will be best suited to India at Berlin in October 2011. The National Conference organised by CERI in Delhi would further discuss and adopt the recommendations of experts that were adopted in Berlin.
The recommendations of experts are made into a policy document.
The document would be released by Chief Election Commissioner, Dr YS Qureshi on February 9 at the Constitution Club, New Delhi at 4pm. Ningombam Noren, sub-editor of The Sangai Express would attend the conference as a representative of the AMWJU, it added.
