Rice stock depletes

Owing to the protracted economic blockade and general strike imposed along the National Highways over the demand for granting district status to Sadar Hills, rice stock in the godowns of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAFPD) as well as FCI has dwindled so much so that it is said that the existing stock would not last for more than 36 days.
According to an official source, there are at present just 14,418 metric tonne of rice and 439 metric tonne of sugar in the godowns of CAFPD and FCI.
The existing stock of rice is only for 36 days while the Sugar for 5 days, the source disclosed, adding that in all 229 trucks have brought rice from FCI godown, Jiribam to Imphal on August 26 to 27 .
Another 48 trucks have also lifted rice from FCI godown, Dimapur and brought to FCI godown, Ukhrul during the same period, the
source disclosed.
