Imphal, July 03 2016:
The Border Area Villages Association (BAVA), Ukhrul district has taken serious note of the failure of the road construction works taken up under different phases of PMGSY at the border areas in the district.
In a statement, the association said that it is sad to learn that the Central Govt sponsored flagship programme has failed to serve the villagers residing at border areas.
There are several landslides leaving poor villagers in a helpless situation, the association said and added that even patients and expecting mothers have to walk long distances due to deplorable road conditions.
The poor villagers procure essential commodities including medicines from Kamjong/Ukhrul on Chinese Kenbo bikes with extreme difficulties.
Rice for National Food Security Act would never reach these areas until the roads are revamped, the statement said and added that these villages are malaria prone areas.
It is shocked to learn that machines like bull dozers, and earth movers had been withdrawn by the contractors and sub-contractors before the completion of the works in May this year.
BAVA urged the authority concerned to take the matter seriously and step up measures at the earliest.
The association would launch a series of agitation with the help of village headmen and like minded organisations to meet the demand.
