Haipou Jadonang remembered on 88th Death Anniversary

Imphal, August 29 2019: Works, IPR and Power Minister Th Bishwajit today calls on the people of the state to learn the live and ideology of Haipou Jadonang on the 88th Death Anniversary of the Freedom fighter.

"Many people may think that Haipou Jadonang had passed away and he is no more with us, but to me he is still among us, that is why we pay tribute to him", Th Bishwajit said while speaking at the 88th death anniversary function held at Haipou Jadonang Park, Keishampat.

Amu Kamei, President of Zeliangrong Union, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, MLA Radhakishore, MLA P Sharatchandra, Dr Y Radheshyam Singh, L Rameshwor Meetei, Ph Deban Sharma, President AMUCO and Sunil Karam, President UCM attended the death anniversary function as dignitaries.

Minister Bishwajit further said that it is important for all the people in this region to discuss the spirit of Jadonang.

"We are told that he died at the age of 26 and we have to understand the spirit of the leader", Bishwajit said.

"Because of his contribution, his sacrifice for the freedom of the region from the hand of mighty British and his courage to fight the colonial army is what we the people of today need to respect.

He further said that all the people of the state need to stand united to protect the region.

People should not leave it to the politician only as it should be all the people that need to stand united for protection of the region.

Talking about religion, Bishwajit said that anybody can choose any religion but should be good for all the people.

Bishwajit said that the state at present need to set up Martyrs' Memorial Park so that all the martyrs of the state who had sacrificed for the freedom of the region fighting the British empire remain at one place.

Haipou Jadonang remembered on 88th Death Anniversary

Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was born in 1905 to Thiudai Malangmei (father) and Tabonliu (mother) at Kambiron (Puilon) village in Tamenglong district of Manipur.

He was the youngest of the three sons.

Jadonang was one of the first Naga people who claimed himself to be a 'Messiah King' of the Nagas to liberate his people from the clutches of British.

And as such, like a God-affected man, he carried out some activities successfully against the British.

He also became very popular for his prophecies, healing power, religious and social activities amongst the masses.

He organized the Heraka army - separate women battalion and challenged mighty British Empire.

He taught his people to be on constant vigil against the traps of British Government and its secret wings and warned his people to be on alert against missionary menace of Church.

Earlier, fitting tribute was paid to the statue of Haipou Jadonang.
