Imphal, August 29 2019:
The Thadou Students' Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) said that it was "strongly" disturbed and irritated by the news of students from Manipur being "attacked and threatened" in their hostels by the local students two days ago at ICFAI University in Tripura.
"An incident of pelting stones, storming hostels with sticks and iron bars was also reported in various papers.
It is also learnt that the said incident was caused just because of a minor incident of eve-teasing by the senior pupils," the TSA-GHQ said in a statement.
The Thadou student body said that the locals could have handled the case wisely.
"The incident causes just only a disgrace to the entire people of Tripura, nothing more than that," the TSA-GHQ added.
The Thadou student body said that the Government of Tripura should have taken enough precaution as and when the incident came to light.
"Such negligence of the law enforcing authority is also highly condemned," it said.
While strongly condemning the "uncivilized event carried out by the locals of Tripura", the TSA appealed "all stakeholders" to put all efforts in reinstating peace and normalcy in the day to day functioning of the university at the earliest possible time.
