Imphal, May 28 2019:
A patient named Maibam Khoidum (97) from Langmeithek Khunou, Heirok Constituency died due to alleged negligence of Thoubal District Hospital doctor.
In a press conference held on the issue at Thoubal Melaground today, Thangjam Sorojini, BJP Thoubal Mahila Parishad, said that the patient was taken to the district hospital at around 8 am yesterday as he had difficulty in passing urine.
The Medical Officer, Geet Tongbram at the district hospital refused to give any kind of assistance to the patient and told them to take the patient to Imphal as the district hospital cannot offer any treatment to him.
The patient party repeatedly urged the doctor to help the patient.
Not even temporary relief was given to the patient.
The patient was made to sit on the wheelchair while saline was being given.
L Sundari, who works as a helper in the hospital, also urged the doctor to help the patient so that he gets some temporary relief.
Geet Tongram, MO, scolded L.Sundari saying that he has done what he could do and he would not be forced into doing anything in this matter.
Finally, the patient party moved out from the hospital taking Maibam to Imphal.
After the patient was taken from the hospital, L Sundari confronted the doctor on his conduct.
To that, the doctor threatened the helper with police action.
After that, tension between the doctors and patient party who were at the hospital escalated.
While all these were going on, phone call came that the Maibam passed away near Thoubal Bridge on his way to Imphal.
The tension was further escalated after this but the patient party remained in control thinking that it is a hospital and there are other patients who are there for treatment.
L Sundari, in the press conference, said that there are malpractices going on in the hospital.
She said that there are good medicine doctors in the hospital but there are doctors who are using this hospital to earn money without the slightest care for the patients.
Many medicine doctors in the room no.10/11 are running the hospital like their private property.
Many doctors do not even hand over the prescriptions to the patient party and directly hand over to the runners who will give to the chemist shops.
The same goes for the tests prescribed for the patients.
People from private laboratories will come to the hospital to collect the prescriptions.
These are the malpractices that are going on in the hospital, she added.
