COVID-19 positive cases climb to 1168

Imphal, June 27 2020: Even as 39 people who were undergoing treatment for COVID-19 have been discharged today after they recovered from the contagion, 76 new cases were detected today taking the State's COVID-19 positive tally to 1168 .

Out of 404 samples tested today at RIMS, 76 were found positive.

Of the 76 people tested positive today, 25 belong to Ukhrul, 14 to Tamenglong, 22 to Kamjong, one to Noney, 13 to Kakching and one to Imphal West.

All of them came back to Manipur from different States sometime back.

According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Sasheekumar Mangang, 29 COVID-19 patients were discharged from JNIMS today and another 10 from UNACCO COVID Care Centre as they have recovered from the contagion.

The recovery rate till date is 39.56 per cent.

Saying that quarantine is the best method for checking spread of COVID-19, a press release by Dr Sasheekumar appealed to all the people to abide by the prescribed protocol.

Meanwhile, all the three staff of Bishnupur District Hospital who were earlier tested positive for COVID 19 and admitted to RIMS tested negative today.

All the samples of family members, close contacts, caterers and Bishnupur District Hospital staff who attended to the hospital's isolation ward have been tested and all of them were found negative, according to a press release issued by Bishnupur CMO Dr L Gojendra Singh.

In the meantime, a community quarantine centre opened at Don Bosco High School, Phayeng for Sekmai AC was closed today.

The quarantine centre was opened on May 10 and it accommodated around 100 people, most of whom are returnees from outside the State.

Testing of their samples was done in phase manner and the whole process was completed on June 24 .

On the other hand, 500 samples were tested at JNIMS today and all of them turned out to be negative.

Meanwhile, the Imphal West DC has sealed the surrounding areas of Khuman Maheikol and Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal after 11 people who were quarantined at the two quarantine centres tested positive.

Apart from initiating active surveillance of COVID-19 cases in the area, the DC has asked all the people staying/residing within the containment area to use Aarogya Setu application compulsorily.

Health workers have started tracing how the volunteer who worked as a caterer in a quarantine centre of Thoubal district contracted the virus.

The individual has been taken into the isolation ward of a COVID Care Centre opened at Thoubal.

Moreover, 34 people who happened to be family members and close contacts of the individual have been put in a quarantine centre and their samples have been already collected, informed a source.
