140th birth anniversary of Helen Keller observed

The Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Manipur observed the 140th birth anniversary of Helen Adams Keller at Sagolband Tera Bazar today.
The function was graced by Athokpam Bishorjit Singh, Pradhan Sapam Leikai Gram Panchayat (GP), P Gopendro Singh, working president, Nimol Ningombam, media advisor and Laimayum Amarendra Sharma as presidium members.
The guests and also the inmates of the centre, along with their guardians paid floral tribute to the photograph of Helen Keller.
Speaking on the occasion, Athokpam Bishorjit Singh motivated the differently abled persons by citing the example of Helen Keller who, being was both blind and deaf, had authored many successful books like Helen Keller's Journal, Out of the Dark, Midstream: My Later Life, My Religion, The Song of the Stone Wall, The World I Live In, and The Story of My Life, etc.
Media Advisor Nimol Ningombam stated that a music written by visually impaired person Wahengbam Soniya and sung Maibam Pretty who is also visually impaired, is in recording stage.
The music is aimed to be released on the upcoming International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Saying that all possible help will be extended to the inmates and centre from his side, Laimayum Amarendra Sharma also motivated them and added that their talents should not be hidden.
He urged the Department of Social Welfare and also Arts & Culture Department to saction funds for musically gifted differently-abled persons in order to encourage them to exhibit their talents.
During the function, the successful candidates of HSLC examination were presented with gifts to felicitate them.
On the other hand, the Handicapped Dev (HD) Foundation, SAVI-Manipur, Shaksham Manipur Prant, Arushi India and Life Savers Manipur also jointly observed the day.
