Another Imphal-Ukhrul road bandh on Youth killed, another injured in police firing

A 19 year old youth, who was shifted to Shija Hospital from JNIMS last night after he was shot in police firing at Sajiwa Lamkhai in Imphal East district, succumbed to his injuries today.
At the same time, the JAC formed in connection with the incident has called an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road demanding the termination of all police commandos involved in last night's firing incident.
Locals of Khurai Konsam Leikai came out in large number and disrupted traffic movement along Imphal-Ukhrul road at Khurai Konsam Leikai area following the death of Konsam Korounganba (19) s/o K Rajen of Khurai Konsam Leikai at Shija Hospital today morning.
Later, the locals gathered at Khurai Popular School ground and held an emergency meeting decrying the police action which claimed the life of Korounganba and injured another youth identified as Konthoujam Bhagat (17) s/o K Kumar of Khongthoujam Mamang Leikai who is presently undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.

Kourounganba, said to be a class XII student of NG Mani Hr Sec School, received bullet wound at the abdomen while the injured Bhagat received injury on his throat.
The meeting was also attended by local MLA Ng Bijoy.
Speaking at the emergency meeting, Ng Bijoy said that the unfortunate incident happened when the deceased youth along with some friends were returning in two vehicles from a picnic at Selheipung garden.
On their way back home, they were stopped by a police team at Lamlai police station around 6 pm for frisking and checking.
But the white Chevrolet Captiva car in which four youths including the deceased were travelling refused to stop when they were asked by the police.
They sped away from the place heading towards Imphal.
A team of police chased the car for around one hour.
The youth then drove towards Sagolmang, Pangei, Waiton and later headed toward Sajiwa Jail after which a team of police commando asked to stop the car which was chased by the police in front of Sajiwa Jail.
Again, the youth refused to stop and sped away from the place, he said.
In their attempt to stop the car, the police opened several rounds of gunfire towards the car at Kangla Sangomsang approach road.
One youth received bullet injury and another youth received injury with the splinters of the vehicle's glass, the MLA said.
The two were rushed to JNIMS hospital for treatment.
As the condition of Korounganba deteriorated, he was referred to Shija Hospital last night itself and he succumbed to injuries there today morning.
Speaking to media persons, convenor of the JAC Ngangom Devendro asked why the police personnel tried to arrest the youth.
He also said that the police should try to nab if at all they did any wrong before opening fire on them.
The JAC formed in the meeting has decided to launch various forms of agitation including imposition of indefinite bandh along the Imphal- Ukhrul road with immediate effect demanding termination of all the commandos involved in the incident and unconditional release of two other youths who are in police custody.
The two arrested youths have been identified as Chandam Premananda (19) s/o of Goura of Khurai Konsam Leikai and Chabungbam Manoj Singh (22) s/o Meghachandra of Phubala Awang Leikai.
They were handed over to Lamlai PS.
The body of K Korounganba which was deposited at JNIMS morgue today morning is lying as an unclaimed body.
