COVID-19 claims one more to take death toll to 40

The COVID-19 death toll in the State reached 40 as a 39 year old man from Thoubal breathed his last at JNIMS today at around 9 am.
Sources at the JNIMS said that the deceased was admitted to the hospital on September 4 with comorbid conditions.
With this, COVID-19 related death toll from Thoubal has reached 12 .
In the last 24 hours, the State saw another three digit surge in COVID-19 cases with 160 persons, including 25 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, testing positive for the contagion.

As per a statement issued by the State Government's COVID-19 Control Room, 160 cases were reported from VRDL JNIMS, RIMS, Raj Medicity, Advance Hospital, Kangpokpi, Maipakpi Hospital, Babina Diagnostic and other testing places opened across the State.
Of these 135 cases (79 male and 56 females) reported among the general population today, Imphal East saw the highest spike with the detection of 53 cases while Imphal West followed suit with 52 cases.
The other cases belonged to Bishnupur (12), Kangpokpi (5), Thoubal (5), Kakching (4), Senapati (3) and Ukhrul (1).Among these cases only 3 (2 from Kakching and 1 from Bishnupur) are returnees while the remaining 132 have no significant travel history.
They have been shifted to COVID care facilities set up across the State and all necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing have been initiated, the statement said.
The recovery rate, on the other hand, now stands at 75.35 with 64 persons getting discharged today from JNIMS (37), RIMS (3), CAPF (6), RD Wing (3), Tamenglong (2), Thoubal (3), Jiribam (6) and Churachandpur (4) .
The cumulative number of positive cases is 7362 (general population-5624 and CAPF- 1738) while the cumulative number of recovered cases is 5548 of which 4335 are general population and 1213 are CAPF personnel.
Strict surveillance, testing and implementation of home isolation measures for asymptomatic patients in Imphal East and Imphal West have been strengthened, the statement added.
A late report from sources said that 10 persons including a CAPF personnel tested positive for the virus today following Rapid Antigen Test in Thoubal while 6 additional cases were reported from Bishnupur.
Meanwhile, 30 cases were added from Imphal West including 9 from Saheibung, 2 from Thangal Keithel and another 4 from Haoreibi testing positive for the virus.
In the meantime, a meeting presided by Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare today at Old Secretariat has decided to shift all the quarantine centres and testing centres opened at schools and colleges in line with the State Government measures to reopen schools and colleges.
The meeting, which was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Imphal East and Imphal West and health officials also decided to make COVID-19 test mandatory for all returnees or entrants.
It was also decided to have separate testing sites for the returnees and transit visitors.
