Morung Express | Dimapur, June 30 (MExN):
The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland reiterates to the Prime Minister of India that the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) must be revoked from the North East region. A memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India from the students’ union also highlighted demands associated with the presence of the Indian military’s in the region.
The organization said it would wait for ‘positive response from the Government of Indian until July 15. Failing to meet the demands would attract agitations till the demand are fulfilled, the union said.
Earlier the organization had written a letter addressed to Dr. Manmohan Singh on March 24 in connection with ‘high handedness of the Indian security and paramilitary including Assam Rifles in the Zeliangrong areas.’ The memorandum had also demanded “immediate transfer” of 11-AR from the Zeliangrong areas, removal of ‘unnecessary security checks post/gates’ on national highway, district highway and inter-village roads action against high handed Col. Chonkar of 11-AR and 24-hours free movement of vehicles in the areas.
