What will the PM have to say ? Date with Narendra Modi
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: March 14 2018 -
BJP in power after ousting the CPI (M) Government after 25 years in Tripura.
BJP in partnership with the NDPP in forming the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government in Nagaland. Ousting the Congress and in power along with the NPP in Meghalaya.
Clearly things cannot get better than this and it is under this reality that Prime Minister N Narendra Modi will be arriving here on March 16 to give a personal touch to the completion of one year in office for the BJP led coalition Government in Manipur.
The script is unfolding just right for the man from Gujarat and given this reality, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will surely see how to reach out more to the people and look beyond the immediate and look towards 2022 when the State will go to polls for the next Assembly.
This may sound far fetched to many, but it will not be surprising if the BJP leadership has started charting out its plans on how to hardsell itself to the voters when the next Assembly election is held.
Address a public meeting at Luwangshangbam on March 16, is the time table that has been worked out and what can one expect to hear from the Prime Minister ?
Definitely it will not be an election campaign but yet at the same time, the Prime Minister will look to further cement the position of the party in the State.
Apart from patting the BJP led Government in the State, the Prime Minister may be expected to take jibes at the Congress as the party is the biggest Opposition here and no stone will be left unturned to ensure that its epitaph is inked now.
So what can one expect the Prime Minister to announce during his visit to the State ?
It will be interesting if the Prime Minister may have anything to say on the pending final solution with the NSCN (IM) and the six NNPGs of Nagaland.
Or better still will the Prime Minister come under the impression that saying something on an issue, which was the hottest topic before the Assembly polls in Nagaland, is important or will Delhi be under the belief that this is a topic best left untouched for the final solution will have no impact on Manipur ?
Which way the dice rolls will be known only when March 16 comes, but there will be many, from either side of the Lim divide, who will be keenly listening whatever the Prime Minister has to say when he lands here.
Whatever the case may be, the visit of the Prime Minister will be watched keenly by all, cutting across the political spectrum and it is not only the BJP and its partners which will listen to what Modi has to say when he comes here.
It is also significant to note that this will be the first time that the Prime Minister will be visiting Manipur, after the 2017 Assembly election.
To be sure the backroom boys of the BJP here must have given the points that may be touched upon by the Prime Minister during his speech at Luwangshangbam and though it will not be a draft policy of the BJP led Government here, it will however be considered by many as to what the BJP led Government here has in mind for the people and the land in the coming days.
