UPA ready to go the extra mile to solve Naga issue: PM
Nagaland Post | Dimapur, Jun 21(NPN):
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that the UPA government was “ready to go the extra mile” to resolve the Naga political issue and assured that “positive actions” in this regard would be taken at the earliest. The Prime minister also asserted that “this is a unique opportunity for Nagas to resolve the political problem.” According to NPCC president S.I.Jamir, the Prime Minister said this when a delegation of the NPCC led by him and CLP led by Tokheho Yepthomi met Dr Singh in New Delhi on June 21.
The NPCC and CLP delegation had apprised the Prime Minister on the need to resolve the Naga political problem within a time frame. The NPCC pointed out that it has been 35 years of stalemate on the Shillong Accord; 14 years of cease fire and negotiation without conclusion or open talk adding all these “do not make sense”.
