Thousands of child soldiers in NE, J&K
Nagaland Post | Dimapur, May 10 (NPN) :
At least 3,000 children - 500 in India’s Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir and about 2,500 in Naxal affected states - were currently involved in armed conflicts. This was revealed in a report “India’s Child Soldiers” prepared by Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) and released on Thursday.
ACHR said India’s first report on the implementation of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict to the UN Committee in 2011 stated that there was no recruitment of child soldiers including by the armed groups in India.
