This Jodha is a novelist and a doctor

He may be diagnosing and treating people with ear, nose and throat ailments, but at heart he is an evergreen romantic writer. And he keeps this part of his personality well concealed behind a serious doctor's demeanour for the better part of the day. After a hard day's work at the hospital and his various teaching assignments, he waits for the moment when he can get back to his world of literature and be alone with his muse and imagination.
Jodha Chandra Sanasam is perhaps more popular as a writer than an ENT specialist in Imphal. Fondly referred to as Doctor Jodha, the 67-year-old is among last year's top 24 litterateurs to have won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award for his Manipuri novel, 'Mathou Kanba DNA' (Potent DNA). "I am honoured to have been selected, I will definitely go to Delhi to receive it," said the doctor, who is the head of the department of otorhinolaryngology (ENT) at the state-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS). The award will be presented in the Capital on February 18 during the 'Festival of Letters' organized by the Sahitya Akademi.
