rediff.com | June 22, 2013 12:03 IST
Not long ago, donning the Indian Air Force uniform was a mere flight of fancy for Flight Cadet Herojit Rajkumar Singh (nicknamed Hero, so apparent!)...... On August 22, 2011, an emergency during a Kiran solo sortie forced him to eject. During the short, parachute-assisted descent, he realised that he could not control his legs. Luckily, he didn’t pick up landing injuries.
Today, the IAF and Flying Officer Herojit Rajkumar Singh have made history. Hero is perhaps the first wheelchair-bound cadet to be commissioned by any of the armed forces in the world.
