Strike chokes supply lines
The Telegraph | Imphal, Aug. 21:
Manipur is staring at a food crisis as the United Naga Council-sponsored indefinite total bandh in Naga-inhabited areas along the state’s three supply lines began today.
The UNC bandh, which disrupted passenger services and movement of commercial goods on Imphal-Dimapur, Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Jessami roads, has been enforced since 1 this morning to protest against any attempt to create Sadar Hills district without the Nagas’ consent.
The bandh came — the state is reeling under an acute shortage of fuel, oxygen and other essential items, including life-saving drugs in addition to skyrocketing prices of commodities — following another blockade imposed by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee since July 31 midnight.
