Seizure of Dried Fish Grenet (Tirkiya) Fish Gills
On receiving specific input regarding movement of contraband "Dried Fish Grenet (Tirkiya) Fish gills" from Chennai to Moreh for further being smuggled into Myanmar, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post(MVCP) was established by 11 Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) near Moreh.
At around 1200 hours, one red color Maruti van registration No MN 05 A 5562 moving from Imphal to Moreh was stopped. The driver was moving suspiciously at the checkpost.
On checking the vehicle approx 86.580 Kilograms of "Dried Fish Grenet (Tirkiya) Fish gills" worth 500 US Dollars per kg (as intimated by Customs, Imphal) was recovered in three bags.
The approximate cost of the recovery is Rs 28.9 lakhs. Customs authority confirmed the recovery to be contraband under enlististed endangered species of Wildlife Preservation Act. The apprehendee along with contraband items was handed over to Customs Authorities Imphal.
