'Rs 12 K crores flying out of northeast for higher education seekers'
Times of India | TNN | May 13, 2013, 01.06 AM IST
An adviser to Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Dinesh Baishya, claimed that a whopping Rs 12,000 crore was flying out of the northeast every year as students from the region had been pursuing higher education outside.
Baishya, a former principal of B Borooah College, Guwahati, said the data was based on findings by the Assam Higher Secondary Council, which had carried out studies in this regard. Calling for the private investment in the higher education sector, Baishya added that there had been no introduction of modern subjects in any government-run higher education set-ups in the country over the past two decades in the wake of globalization.
