Road to Senapati
Eastern Mirror Editorial | Dimapur, May 31 :
The recent visit of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to Senapati under Manipur State to participate in the launching of the Naga People’s Front’s Manipur unit created a standoff between two state governments which was totally unnecessary to start off with.
Had Mr Rio been barred from entering, the Manipur Government would have made a mockery of the largest democracy of the world.
It is no secret that tribals, especially Nagas, are second class citizens in Manipur. There is absolutely no semblance of development in the tribal areas, their political rights and privileges are totally ignored and a deep sense of suppression and discrimination exist in the minds of the tribal people.
Mr Rio has been undeterred in speaking up for the truth and voicing the cry of his people. New Delhi must sit up and listen.
