For The First Time "Register To Vote' On Facebook

Facebook users of the state who are 18 years and above will receive a reminder in their News Feed to register to vote for a day for the first time. By clicking on the ‘Register Now’ button, people will be directed to the National Voters’ Services portal which will guide them through the registration process, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur Shri Vivek Kumar Dewangan, IAS today in a press conference held at the Old Secretariat Conference Hall.
“Based on the advice of Election Commission of India, 11th Legislative Assembly Election 2017 in Manipur shall be celebrated as Festival of Democracy where each eligible elector shall be motivated to participate. Young voters who are going to be more than 18 years as on first January 2017 are being targeted for registration of their names in the Electoral Rolls and the initiative of Facebook-Register to Vote shall go a long way in enabling all young voters for their enrolment.”
The feature will be available on the 7th October, 2016 for people of Manipur. 53,041 new electors will get EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card) by the end of December, 2016.

It may be recalled that Facebook has partnered with the Chief Electoral Officers of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarkhand to run a voter registration drive for the first time in India in connection with Legislative Assembly Elections 2017 in these States.
