RIMS reopens OPD
The Telegraph, May 26:
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here reopened its outpatient department (OPD) as usual today despite a militant threat on Tuesday. The institute’s authorities had announced indefinite closure of the OPD from 1pm on Tuesday after a caller, who identified himself to be a cadre of a militant group, asked the medical superintendent in-charge of RIMS, H. Shanti, to shut down the institute’s OPD till the group reached an agreement with the director on some matters.
Though the OPD was opened today, not many patients turned up as vehicles stayed off the road following a 72-hour statewide general strike called by a joint action committee of Bishnupur district from 6am today. The bandh was called to demand the arrest of the yet unidentified culprits involved in the murder of a four-year-old boy on a temple complex at Ningthoukhong on May 18.
Shekharjit declined to comment on the alleged “disagreement” between him and the militant group but appealed to all outfits not to cause any disturbance and create panic in the hospital, which forms a part of emergency services and saves lives.
