Prices of food commodities escalates in Manipur
Nagaland Post | Imphal, Aug. 10:
The prices of food commodity except rice and other essential commodities have increased sharply in the markets across the state as a result of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) sponsored economic blockade, which began from August 1. The prices are likely to rise further as there was no sign end to the deadlock.
The economic blockade on NH-39 and NH-53 which was started from August 1 for a week (till August 7 midnight) extended till August 31 as the indefinite Sadar bandh is still on. Since then inflow of all kinds of commodities into Manipur from outside the state have been disturbing. A kg of potato which cost Rs 15 sold at Rs 30 to 35. Likely, the price of Onion has been increased from Rs 18 to Rs 35 per kg.
On the other hand, most of the petrol pumps in Imphal area particularly NRL outlets have remained closed for the last few days. When asked, workers at the NRL pumps said that oil tankers are not arriving to replenish the exhausted stocks. However, some pumps were seen opening but selling only diesel even though official source said that there was enough stock in the government oil depots.
