Pregnant Moments (Fragments of a Poem)
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Had I known I'd be drowning
And almost dying
I'd never have swum
On that day, at that place
And at that fateful moment.
Oh, the area of Nambul rivulet under the fig tree
Where wavelets spin round
In a swirl of various shades of mud!
Honest I had no inkling of what would happen
And I did swim for pleasure,
Then it all happened so suddenly.
I struggled and struggled as I had never before
To loosen myself the grip of
The greatest fear of my life.
A Lilliput against hundreds of thousands of Gullivers!
Suddenly I was free
And at the first opportune moment
I swam back to the bank
Shaking like a leaf
After meeting death face to face
