Outbreak of rabies in Manipur; slaughter of stray dogs ordered

Following the widespread outbreak of suspected rabies epidemic in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, health and family minister, Phungzathang Tonsing has ordered slaughter of stray dogs in the district.
“I have ordered to kill all the dogs that are sets free on the roads at Churachandpur district,” said Tonsing while talking to reporters in Imphal on the sideline of inaugural function of the Pulse Polio Immunization at the office premises of the family welfare department. Manipur government has sounded an alarm across the state following 11 dead and 263 cases of dog bite since October last year.
