Northeast to observe World Bamboo Day today

Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland join the celebrations on World Bamboo Day on Sunday with Pondicherry, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Orissa.
The day is being celebrated across the globe in Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Israel, Nicaragua, Philippines, Thailand, the UK and US.
South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF) executive director Kamesh Salam said the World Bamboo Day was declared by the Thai royal forest department on September 18 in Bangkok, during the 8th World Bamboo Congress held in Bangkok. This declaration is an effort to increase the awareness of bamboo globally, he added.
