Northeast reviews disaster preparedness after quake

In the wake of Sunday's 6.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked large parts of north, east and northeastern India and neighbouring Bangladesh and Nepal, the northeastern States are reviewing their preparedness to deal with any such disaster.
According to the officials, Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries of Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura held separate review meetings in their respective state capitals on Monday and Tuesday and decided to improve the existing infrastructure to deal with any such situation.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh have also held similar assessment meetings in Aizawl and Imphal respectively and directed the officials to review the preparedness on the spot and take precautionary steps to deal with any eventualities.
