Newly floated Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party
Dimapur, November 05, 2017 :
What can be termed, an apparent phenomenon of Murphy's Law that ‘things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance,’ some leaders of the newly floated Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on Saturday kicked-off unwanted controversies in the arena of Naga Politics and perhaps succeeded in coining for the Party a new corollary that ‘If there is a wrong way to do something, then NDPP will do it.’
The statement of some NDPP leaders purportedly made at NDPP Consultative Meet at Mokokchung displayed clear solecism of their newly found political voice by implying that the NPF led DAN Government led by TR Zeliang is the worst Government ever. NDPP as a political party has added new dimensions to Murphy’s Law through its reckless statement and is likely to commit the same mistake again because on close observation, NDPP does not really seem to give a damn about the past, present or future situation of political dynamics in the State.
If at all it does, it would be a wise move on the part of NDPP to retract the statements from public domain to avoid repercussions, as NPF may not play second fiddle to NDPP neither in the upcoming 2018 Assembly Elections nor in the event an amicable solution to the protracted Indo-Naga issue is arrived at, though cordial relationship may continue.
That ‘NDPP was formed in response to the call of the masses for a change after consultation with the common people as needed and desired by the people’ and would ‘fight corruption, be accountable, transparent and restore the governing system’ may be nothing more than political juggleries based on the fact that several NDPP leaders were the top-boss of the DAN Government at one point.
Today, their Pandora box is in the custody of the Government and may be opened on unwarranted accusations and therefore, instead of provoking the Government, it will do more good by continuing to improve its policies, programs and activities as a responsible political party. The present day Government under the leadership of TR Zeliang is not without drawbacks, no Government in the world is, but the best of effort is being put-in to tackle prevailing issues at hand and will continue to do in the coming future.
Switching political parties does not necessarily change an individual’s perception, attitude or philosophy towards Governance and politics. Given the present situation where NDPP has termed the present Government headed by TR Zeliang as the 'worst Government ever in Nagaland,’ NDPP may like to come up with clear facts, figures and data instead of cheap and ill-conceived political rhetoric.
The reminiscence of how a break-away faction from the original NPF Party formed NDPP in May 2017, which was nothing but a desperate act under desperate circumstances at a desperate point of time when the present NDPP leaders totally lost their voice in the Government and in NPF Party affairs, then led by TR Zeliang as Chief Minister and Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu as NPF President, may be a polite awakening for NDPP leaders, following which is history which the general public knows better.
For their own good, NDPP leaders must understand that their own family members are current Minister/s and Parliamentary Secretary/s running the present day Government and slinging mud against that very Government is nothing but political suicide.
Today, the audacity of NDPP leaders in questioning the credibility of the State Government led by Chief Minister, TR Zeliang formed with the support of MP, Lok Sabha, Neiphiu Rio and others displays the not-so-clean intentions of NDPP and is a clear example of double-standard politics. Supporting the NPF Party and its Government at NPF Convention, Dimapur while defaming the same Government at its Consultative Meet at Mokokchung may develop hardcore Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personalities but will not take the NDPP Party any further as a political party.
If at all NDPP under its motto, ‘By Deeds, not Words’ is serious on building a ‘good Nagaland’, it can do a lot better by focusing on its priorities instead of bad-mouthing the Government and using the same as boosters for the party’s start-up. Or if it still wants to continue to cane the present day Government, it can start-off by picking the present day NPF Party under the President-ship of MP, Lok Sabha Neiphiu Rio under whose Party’s symbol, 37 NPF MLAs constitutes the present day Government under the Chief Minister-ship of TR Zeliang. Politics it is but Clean Politics it must be.
