Naga Peace talks: Settlement in shortest possible time
Nagaland Post | New Delhi, Jul 18 (NPN):
Members of the central team and NSCN (I-M) at the meeting in New Delhi - Pix :: Nagaland Post
Centre’s interlocutor, RS Pandey and NSCN (I-M) general secretary Th. Muivah Monday disclosed that both the parties were confident of working out a settlement to the Naga political problem, in the “shortest possible time”.
Adds PTI: Sources said the proposed peace deal ruled out the NSCN’s demand for unification of Naga inhabited areas and would give territorial guarantee of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
However, they said the government would provide maximum autonomy to Nagaland under various provisions of the Constitution. The Naga group has been holding parleys with Pandey to iron out differences on several vexed issues.
The NSCN (I-M) has proposed a federal relationship with the Centre with additional financial and legislative powers while the government offered financial package for socio- cultural development of Naga people.
