NSCN's Khaplang leads prayer for Hazarika, Goswami in Myanmar camp

In a strong signal of the combining of insurgent forces, S S Khaplang who heads a major faction of the NSCN on Friday fasted for a day and led a prayer meeting for the early recovery of ailing Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika and leading writer Indira Goswami.The prayer meeting took place at the ULFA mobile military headquarters at Taga in Myanmar, which is about a day’s journey away from the Chinese border. The area is under the control of the Kachin militia which is about 15,000 cadre strong and prominent gun runners in that particular stretch.
Paresh Barua led the ULFA group in the prayer meeting which was also attended by other insurgent groups including RPF (PLA), KYKL, KCP, PREEPAK, UNLF (MPA) and UPPK.
Hazarika, 84, singer, composer and film director, is under treatment at Kokilabhen Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai since June 28 while Jnanpith winner Goswami, one of the first mediators who tried to bring the ULFA to the negotiation table with the government, is in coma since February 13.
