NE faces 9.6 pc energy shortage

The NE States may be sitting on a huge hydropower potential, but the region has faced energy shortage of 9.6 per cent, while its peak shortage was 13.5 per cent.
Assam’s deficit during the period was 10.4 per cent and its peak shortage was 4.9 per cent. Meghalaya had the highest deficit of 24.6 per cent and peak power deficit of 17.9 per cent.
In a Lok Sabha reply to a question by Rajen Gohain, Union Power Minister, SK Shinde said that the steps taken by the Government included capacity addition of about 663 MW during the 11th Plan.
