Rozer Irom, the Manipuri student studying in the City, who was shot dead on a visit to his home town, Imphal, is suspected to have been killed by a man related to a minister in the Manipuri state government.
A few of Irom’s friends, seeking anonymity told Deccan Herald that Irom who hailed from a rich family had a number of enemies and moved out of Imphal owing to a threat to his life.
It is probably my last meeting with you guys, you may not see me ever again,” he is said to have said told a few of them. His friends had, however, not taken his words seriously.
“He sounded tense days before he left for Imphal. He kept mentioning that he had a lot of enemies in Manipur,” Najeeb, a classmate of Irom ’s told Deccan Herald, adding that he had been witness to Irom exchanging heated words with some of his “friends” from Manipur online.
“I was totally shocked and did not know how to react when I heard the news,” Shafeeque, another classmate of Irom said. The College held a meeting on Tuesday to condole Irom’s death.
