Myanmar logs 'chase' protest
- India chest-thumping raises hackles
The Telegraph | Nishit Dholabhai | New Delhi, Sept. 11:
Myanmar has protested to New Delhi against a counter-insurgency operation by Indian security forces that it says took place within its territory last week. The alleged hot pursuit on September 5 killed three rebels from the Manipur-based People's Liberation Army. Soon after, the Assam Rifles claimed in a media release that the operation was confined to Indian territory.
But sources in the security forces said the Assam Rifles had conducted the raid without clearance from its top echelons, and had, therefore, to deny it had crossed the border.
