My eyes are set on nothing but gold : Laishram Devendro
The Telegraph | Saurav Bora | Guwahati, March 18:
Laishram Devendro Singh, the diminutive yet pugnacious pugilist from Yurembam in Imphal West district of Manipur, won a billion hearts despite narrowly missing out on what would have been India’s seventh medal at the London Olympics last year. His hand speed, aggressive style and never-say-die attitude not only took his fancied opponents at the Games by surprise but also instilled belief in the fraternity back home that Indian boxing had finally come of age, that there could be more medals in the bag, come Rio Olympics in 2016.
TT: Finally, do you have any goal now?
DS: I intend to take a step-by-step approach. I am looking forward to the world championship at Almaty later this year. Then, there are the Commonwealth and Asian Games. That’s in the run-up to Rio, where my eyes are set on nothing but gold.
