Monsoon activities weak over NE region
Assam Tribune | Ajit Patowary | Guwahati, July 30
Monsoon this time is weak over the NE region as well as over other parts of the country, even as rainfall activities over the Northern part of the country this monsoon is comparatively good, said Hargobinda Pathak, Deputy Director General of Meteorology (DDGM) of the Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here. He was talking to this newspaper.
Pathak has linked the above phenomenon to the non-formation of weather systems, like monsoon low-pressure areas, monsoon depressions and monsoon trough over the North Bay of Bengal. This development may be attributed to the change in global atmospheric circulation system, confirmation of which requires extensive study taking into consideration the meteorological data of at least 100 years, including those related with the global wind system, he said.
Similarly, Manipur has recorded a deficit rainfall of 46 per cent with Meghalaya recording a deficit rainfall of 31 per cent, each of Mizoram and Nagaland recording a deficit rainfall of 34 per cent and Tripura recording a deficit rainfall of 22 per cent this monsoon.
