Militancy on the wane in northeast: Assam Rifles chief

The Assam Rifles on Saturday claimed that militancy has taken a backseat in the northeast and the region, which has been in the news for mindless bloodbaths for decades, is finally witnessing "the beginning of an end to insurgency".
"Currently, there is no classical insurgency in NE. There are some disturbances, parameters of which, too, have been coming down over the years," Assam Rifles Director General (DGAR) Lt-Gen.
Dwelling on the controversial continuation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958, the DGAR maintained that it solely depended on the respective state governments. "We in uniform have nothing to do with it," he iterated.
