Manipur's lifeline cut off for 3 days
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra, Imphal (Jan 18):
Movement of goods through national highway no 2 (erstwhile NH 39) which connects Imphal to Dimapur remained suspended for the third consecutive day on Friday as locals of Jakhama village in Nagaland continued their blockade of all heavy goods trucks in connection with a road accident that killed one villager and injured two others. Nagaland police have already seized the truck involved in the incident and also arrested the driver.
A youth from the village was killed and another two injured when an Imphal-bound truck bearing Manipur registration number knocked down the trio on January 15. So far the impact of the blockade has not been felt in the valley which depends on goods ferried in through its two lifelines – the Imphal-Jiribam highway and the Imphal-Dimpur highway, with the latter being the primary route.
