Manipuri classical dancer Phanjoubam Iboton warned against distorting dance form
The Telegraph | Imphal, July 21:
In Manipur, this year’s Sangeet Natak Akademi award-winning exponent of Manipuri classical dance, Phanjoubam Iboton Singh, warned against distorting the dance form.
Iboton, pradhan guru of Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy, Imphal, will receive the award on July 22.
“There is not much distortion to the Manipuri classical dance. Even then, dance gurus staying in other parts of the country, like West Bengal changed the form of the dance, like eye and body movements. In fact, they are not distorting the dance form but they are working on it to suit their respective areas. So I feel all the gurus should come together and understand Manipuri classical dance form and preserve it in its true form and content,” he said.
