Manipur refutes CRS report on child sex ratio, says highest among NE
Nagaland Post | Imphal, Dec 14:
Rejecting the reports on worsened sex ratio in Manipur, Nodal Officer of Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act Dr Th Arunkumar on Monday claimed that Manipur’s sex ratio of children at birth is the highest in North-eastern states. It may be mentioned here that Civil Registration System (CRS) in a report on India’s sex ratio at birth stated that Manipur, where women have a leading role in public life, has reported the worst numbers.
Addressing a press conference at his office chamber Monday, Dr Arunkumar rejected the report and said that if look into the registration of child birth report, it was a false report and the ground reality was 960 girls for every 1000 boys. As per a report of all India level, the Northeast states having high sex ratio were in the safer side and among them Manipur has the highest number, he added. At the same time, Dr Arunkumar admitted that the state had witnessed a decadal decline in sex ratio of children below six years during the last two decades.
