Manipur govt plans for mega handloom cluster

Opening of mega handloom cluster in the state was among other projects being planned by the Manipur government to take full advantage of the Look East Policy and introduction of railways in the state, said state commerce and industries minister Govindas Konthojuam Monday. The minister said that government was keen on establishing the mega handloom cluster at Lamboi Khongnangkhong in Imphal West district at the cost of Rs 70 crore under the sponsorship of Union ministry of textiles.
Additional commissioner (Handloom and Handicrafts) of the Union textile ministry had visited Imphal on October 19 last year and inspected the present development of handloom and handicraft in the state.
