Manipur State Archery Championship
Continuing with its efforts to promote sports and support young sportspersons in Manipur, the Assam Rifles conducted Manipur Inter Club Archery Championship at Keithalmanbi. The event was organised by 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) from 10-12 March 2017.
A total of 53 archers from 12 different archery clubs registered under Manipur Archery Association participated in the Championship and showcased their skills in Indian, Compound and Recurve categories. In keenly contested finals, Th Langamba of Southern Southern Imphal Centre for Archery (SICA) , N Arjun of SICA and G Chuichui of Sports Authority of India Recreation Club (SARC) emerged as winners in Indian, Compound and Recurve categories respectively.
Major General Virendra Singh, VSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) presided over the finals and closing ceremony of the Championship. The IG felicitated the Gold, Silver and Bronze medallists in each category and encouraged all participants to excel in the sport and aim at bringing laurels for the country in their future endeavours. He also appreciated the dedication and hard work of the archers and highlighted the rich tradition of sports in Manipur and assured maximum possible help and support for the budding sports talent in the State.
The Championship is conducted every year to provide a platform to young archers of Manipur to showcase their skills and excel in the sport. Brig JS Bainsla, Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles and Mr BK Sharma, Secretary, Manipur Archery Association also witnessed the finals and encouraged the young archers.
cycling expedition
ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISES CYCLING EXPEDITION
The cycling expedition is being organised by 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South). The twenty gallant volunteers from various units of HQ IGAR (South) will cover a total distance of 199 kilometers from Jessami to Mantripukhri. The expedition will be flagged off by the Col (Ops) & Coord, HQ 10 Sector Assam Rifles from Jessami on 16 March 2017.
In addition to displaying their spirit of adventure, the participants will spread the message of tranquility and “Unity in Diversity” and reassure the locals that the Assam Rifles is “Friends of Manipur”.
The team will interact with locals/Ex-serviceman and enlightens them with various government schemes. The cyclist will cycle for four days through a treacherous terrain, traverse the length and breadth of region reflecting the true spirit/glorious tradition and finally reach their destination at HQ IGAR (South), Mantripukhri.
On 20 March 2017, Brigadier R K Singh, Deputy Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) will Flag-in the expedition.
