16th Y. Nilamani Memorial Open Chess
Rk. Apollosana Singh claimed the champion’s title of the 16th Y. Nilamani Memorial Open Chess Tournament at Singjamei in Imphal West today, tackling H. Jacky and collecting six points. Rated player Rk. Bhubon Singh and second seed Kh. Sanjoy Singh played to a draw, locked on 5.5 points.
With a flip of the coin, Rk. Bhogen Singh took the second spot. K. Kisan Singh took the fourth spot. H. Jacky Singh came fifth.
Climbers’ squad: Four state climbers, A. Puspakanta, K. Surjit, H. Mimar and L. Munindro were named in the 13-member squad for the Asian Youth Championship in Singapore from July 28.
IX Governors’ Trophy Tennis Championship
Calvin Golmei lifted the champion’s trophy of the U-12 boys’ category in the IX Governors’ Trophy Tennis Championship at Officers’ Club, Lamphelpat, today. Golmei tamed Musha M.N. in straight sets 4-0, 4-0 for the title.
In the U-10 boys’ final, Levy defeated Anukul 6-4, 6-4 to grab the title.
In the U-14 girls’ semi-finals, Jenifer Devi smashed her way to the final, defeating Roshni Devi 4-0, 4-0 en route to the final. Jenifer overcame Amrita Devi 4-1, 4-0.
