State-Level Boxing
Md Ibrahim Khan punched his way to the finals of the junior boys 48 kg category beating N. Opendro Singh in the State-Level Boxing Championship 2011 held at Thangmeiband.
M. Premkumar Meitei, H. Kenison Singh, N. Narendra Singh, Y. Royalson Singh, Kh. Kanheiya Meitei, L. Santhoi Singh, H. Ratan Singh, Th. Homen Singh and H. Anilkanta also made it to the finals in that category. A. Renu Devi, T. Aruna Devi and S. Ronibala Devi in the women’s open category, and Ch. Sunil Singh in the senior men’s category clinched berths in the finals.
7th Governor’s Cup State-Level Fencing
SAI RC are leading with 18 medals in the 7th Governor’s Cup State-Level Fencing Championship at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium.
With a day left in the championship, SAI have bagged eight gold, four silver and six bronze medals while United Progressive Adults’ Association have bagged six gold, four silver and six bronze medals and Khurai Miishikhol have four gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals.
16th Narayanmal Garodia Gold Cup Football
North Imphal Sports Association, Manipur, defeated Oil India Football Club 2-1 today to clinch the champion’s title of the 16th Narayanmal Garodia Gold Cup Football Tournament.
In an evenly fought final match played at the Chowkidingee playground here, both the teams came up with a good show, much to the entertainment of the 4,000-strong spectators.
Fourteen teams from the region featured in the tournament, registered under the All India Football Federation from the current edition, which is organised biennially by Milan Jyoti Sangha, Dibrugarh.
L. Prem Kumar (NISA) was adjudged the Best Player and Mathew Thongjom (Oil India FC) was adjudged the Second Best Player of the final.
