The Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) today demanded dismissal of the Okram Ibobi Singh government, holding it responsible for the recent murder of a youth by the son of irrigation and flood control minister N. Biren Singh.
Although chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh had assured the House that justice would be delivered, the incident has given the MPP a weapon to attack the Ibobi Singh-led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) ministry with.
At the end of the sit-in, held from 11am to 3pm, the party sent identical memorandums to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, home minister P. Chidambaram and Governor Gurbachan Jagat demanding removal of the Ibobi Singh government and imposition of President’s rule.
It also cited the case of attempt on the life of advocate-general N. Koteshwor Singh by works minister K. Ranjit and the then tribal development minister D.D. Thaisii last year.
