Last rites of Irom Rozer performed

The last rites of Irom Rozer Singh, who was reportedly gunned down by Youth Affair and Sports (YAS) Minister, Manipur, N Biren Singh's son N Ajay Meetei, was performed on March 22. On the other hand the court concerned remanded the accused along with his four accomplices to police custody.
Meanwhile the District Magistrate (Imphal East) has clamped indefinite prohibitory orders under CrPC in the district as pre-emptive measures.
It may be recalled that Irom Roger (21), s/o Irom Lokendro Singh of Wangkhei Angom Leikai, an under graduate student studying in Bangalore, was driving with his friends in a car (I-20) at Ghari area in Imphal West on March 20 afternoon around 2: pm, during holi festival, when five youths including YAS minister’s son N. Ajay Meetei who were moving in a jeep overtook the car and shot at Roger at close range before fleeing the spot.
In this connection a case along with a written complaint was lodged at Singjamei Police by the deceased father. Following the complaint, police conducted intensive investigation and were able to establish the name of suspects involved in this incident.
However, on March 21 at about 10 am N. Ajay (main accused) along with his four accomplices surrendered to the SDPO Singjamei. Besides that Ajay also confessed to the crime as perpetrated by him with a license gun registered in his name.
An M-20 pistol along wih 6 live rounds and the Bolero were used in the commission of the crime. Police also recovered one empty fired case of M-20 pistol from the incident spot.
According to the deceased father, as far as his knowledge, his son had no past enmity with Ajay and that the incident might have been triggered owing to the issue over right of way along the road.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of I Roger Singh was formed by irate Wangkhei residents and family members claimed the body of I Roger on March 22 afternoon body from the mortuary of the centre-run Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and consigned him to flames.
The convenor of the JAC, A. Boby Singh, said the body was taken only after the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh (almost) complied with their demands.
On another demand to cancel all gun licenses given to minor (aged) people, the Chief Minister said such licenses are provided to adult, he added.
"Chief Minister Ibobi Singh also assured the JAC that his government will take stringent action if any minor youth possesses licensed gun," said Boby.
On the demand to sack Minister Biren in the wake of his son's barbaric action, the Chief Minister said it was under his (Biren) moral responsibility, he added.
