Keibul Lamjao park to be made encroachment-free

Houses, religious structures and community halls constructed by encroachers at Keibul Lamjao, the biggest floating park in the world and home to the rare brow antlered deer, are likely to be evicted soon. Covering a whooping area of 40 sq km , Keibul Lamjao was declared as a national park in March 1997.
On Monday, Manipur forest and revenue officials began a three-side demarcation of the park to check whether the original area of the park is still intact. During the demarcation process, the team found illegal construction of at least six religious structures, a few community halls and some houses at Keibul Chingmei on the western side of the park, a forest official said.
