Institute to help preserve, promote NE cuisines
Times of India | Naresh Mitra | Jan 11, 2013, 04.56 AM IST
Northeast is home to 200-odd tribes and nearly 400 sub-tribes. These diverse ethnic groups have unique culinary traditions that people outside the region are unaware of. Now, these rich cuisines are all set to come out from the confines of NE kitchens thanks to a much-needed institute that's supposed to come up in the region. The institute will be dedicated to the preservation of the culinary cultures of the region.
The Union ministry of tourism's working group for the 12th Five Year Plan proposes to set up the Indian Culinary Institute (ICI). The institute will have six regional centres of which one will be in the northeast. The other regional centres will be established in four metropolitan cities and one in central India.
