Ibobi rejects 'homage' proposal
Observing silence not on house agenda, says Manipur CM
The Telegraph | Imphal Jun 18 ()
Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh turned down an Opposition proposal in the Assembly today to observe a two-minute silence to pay homage to 18 people who died in police firing on this day in 2001.
When the Speaker sought the opinion of the House, Ibobi Singh, who is also the leader of the House, said the matter could not be taken up, as it was not on the agenda for the day. “Members should not know that only urgent matters of public importance are raised during zero hour and the House cannot observe two-minute silence as it was not on the day’s agenda,” he said.
